Walls

Walls can only be built in a settlement of town-size. They increase your land bombardment defence to eight, and you also get a 50% defence increase. When the settlement becomes a city, walls become obsolete.

Wealth

Uses your shield output to generate gold at a ratio of 8 shields for every gold unit produced. Once Economics is developed, it becomes 4:1.
